Scarriff Island
County Kerry Iveragh Peninsula
The name means ‘rough place’ and the island, 5km off Hog’s head on the North side of Kenmare Bay, is almost completely encircled by cliffs and unsurmountable rocks. The monks who built the oratory however decided it was a fine place for solitude and prayer. No sheep however, only goats now.
